Annual Enrollment for Medicare runs from October 15 to December 7 each year. During this period, beneficiaries can make changes to their Medicare Health Plan coverage. They can switch between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage Plans, change Medicare Advantage Plans, or join/change Part D Prescription Drug Plans.
A Medicare Advantage Plan can be either an HMO or a PPO and will have networks of doctors. A Medicare Advantage plan generally incorporates prescription drug coverage into the medical plan itself, so there is no additional premium. They also include things such as Dental, Vision, Hearing, Gym Memberships and more. There are plans that have $0 premium! You just pay CoPays and/or co-insurance to a max out of pocket. A Medicare Supplement Plan, does not have a doctor network. You can see any doctor that takes Medicare anywhere in the country. This option generally has a higher monthly cost than a Medicare Advantage plan and you will also need separate drug coverage. Dental and Vision are separate. You can join anytime, but underwriting may be required.
